to all and sundry, near and far, our barony in particular:
  go bravely forth in sun or rain,
  set up the tents upon the plain,
  don armor (sweltering or soggy)
  assemble troops (sunlight or foggy)
  charge bravely in the face of foes
  strike swift and hard, tremendous blows--
  send arrows flying thither and yon
  feast among friends when fighting's done--
  ye dames and maidens, cheer our heroes
  or fight yourselves, in the front rows--
  or better yet, have private fling
  amongst the many merchanting!
  i wish you all two weeks of glory
  and safe return with many a story.
  we left a home will somehow manage
  to hold the borders 'gainst the savage...
  and welcome you again at last
  when pennsic war is safely past.
  return victorious from the fray
  and live to boast another day!
