[Moo] Acorn's "Be a Hero, Save a Life at Pennsic"

Dear Gentles,

I noted that in the Acorn there is mention of the Pennsic 33 Blood
Drive. Many times people do not think to give blood, without realizing
how important this tiny service can be to others. Not having a
personal face to refer to can make giving blood less important to you.
However, I have such a personal face for you, now.

My little daughter, Stella Isadora, was born on June 30 by emergency
cesarean. The surgery appeared to go well, but by 3am on July 1, I had
hemmoraged and my blood pressure had fallen to 55 over 38. I was
dying. My physician and the nurses worked diligently and prayed
fervently to save my life. They are truly heroes. But there are two
other heroes whose names and faces will never be known to me. They are
the people who donated blood so that I could live.

I can never thank them for what they gave, but my gratitude knows no
bounds. They are truly knights in shining armor for me. You, too, can
be that hero to someone. All it takes is a few minutes of your time and
the willingness to settle back on a comfy lounge with your arm out.
Sometimes being heroic takes so little, but, believe me, the person
whose life you save with that little pint of blood--be it a soldier run
afoul of a bomb in the MidEast, a traffic accident victim, or a new
mother struggling in the fight of her life--will be grateful to you for
it.

And there's even a cookie in it for you.
