One easy and usual way to do it is to register a ghost.

Esentially you buy another slot with a fake name, make sure it is registered to the same camp/group as yourself. Quite a few people simply use things like their pets name as a first name and their last name. It costs an adult fee, and I think people use their own member numbers. 

Then seperately notify your barony/group land agent that Spike McKree is your ghost so they know and include that favorably with your previous alotment. (aka adjacent, or volume increase as nessisary) What happens is someone simply does not come that pre-paid so the "slot" is used only by you.

Also some people in the same group "share" a ghost (1 person registers and pays) this way if you only need a portion of a full "slot" you find someone to help split the cost. Again if you do this, be sure both parties diviy up the land as agreed and then notify the Baronial Land agent with all the details.
