Kingdom Archery Championships

July 16, 2005 -- Canton of Sudentorre (Fredericksburg, VA)

Archers who are seriously wishing to contend for the top ranks in the tournament should note that some shoots will require 12 arrows/bolts in order to fully shoot them. Given the chance of losing or breaking some during the process, I would recommend that all archers come with MORE THAN 12 in their quiver.

Also note that, as in year's past, the finals may involve ALOT of shooting (and be remarkably fun to watch). If any archer feels they have a chance of making the finals, then I recommend they bring LOTS of ammo - If you are short on ammo, borrowing will be allowed from other
archers.

Site: will open at 9 AM, check-ins will begin at 10 AM and pre-shoot meeting will be held at 10:30 AM. Site will close at 6 PM. The site is an open field, surrounded by woods. It is a primitive location with porta-potties provided.

Due to the remoteness of the event site, lunch is included in the site fee. A hearty and filling medieval lunch will be prepared by THLady Blitha of Wolfhou. Both meat and vegetarian meals will be available. Contact Lady Blitha at 540 361-7473 or email her for dietary concerns. No calls after 9 PM please.

Site fees: Adults -- $10.00, Youth 9-17 -- $7.00, Children under 9 are guests of the Canton. Non-members add $3.

Merchants are welcome -- however the site is completely undeveloped and all merchants will have to bring their own shelters, tables, etc. Contact Lady Cairistiona de Coveran.

Site Restrictions: Troll will close at 1 PM. The site is dry. Pets are welcome, but must be on a six-foot lead at all times while on the grounds. No fires allowed.

Directions: Take your best route to I-95 toward Fredericksburg, VA. Just north of Fredericksburg and the Rappahannock River, take exit 133 (Rt17/Warrenton/Falmouth East toward Business 17/ Falmouth). Stay in the left lane, and cross over Rt 1 onto Butler Road. Stay on this road until you see the WaWa Gas Station on your left. Go thru this light and you are now on White Oak Road (Rt 218). Turn left onto Belle Plains Rd (Rt 604) and go 3.3 miles. Turn left onto Old Creek Side Rd (Potomac Creek Estates). Take the second right on Stillman's Landing and site is straight ahead. ** It is 5.7 miles from 1-95 to the turn onto Belle Plains Rd. Although this is a straight drive with no turns, the name of the road changes three times.

A note from Siegfried Sebastian Faust (Eli White), current Kingdom Archery Champion: You do not NEED 12 arrows to shoot...you do not NEED an invitation...you do not NEED to even be able to hit the broadside of a castle in order to come out, shoot, and have a blast.

I highly recommend for everyone to come out, shoot, and enjoy themselves, it should be quite a day and I guarantee that no one will go home without sore shoulders.

PS. A couple more rules that the 'contenders' will care to know.
A) Only one bow or crossbow is to be used for the entire competition. No switch hitting.
B) Double-loading is allowed if you wish to use that tactic.
C) There are no requirements of position for any of the targets (i.e., sitting, standing, etc)
