MARLA LECIN APPOINTED SCA WEBMASTER

NOVEMBER 28, 2005: Scott Courtney, Chief Technical Officer of the
Society for
Creative Anachronism Inc., announces the appointment of Marla Lecin,
known in
the SCA as Mistress Jessa d'Avondale, to the position of Webmaster. In
this
role, Ms. Lecin will have primary responsibility and authority for
publishing
and maintaining content and for the visual design of the web site. The
Webmaster
is a newly-created volunteer position reporting to the Chief Technical
Officer.

Formerly, the title of Webmaster was not formally defined, and was
more-or-less
folded into the office of Chief Technical Officer, with Ms. Lecin
serving
informally as a deputy to the CTO. This appointment recognizes her
contribution
with a title appropriate to the work she is already doing, and indeed
has done
for several years under two different CTOs.

In addition to recognizing and formalizing Ms. Lecin's role, the
appointment of
Webmaster as a separate office allows the Chief Technical Officer to
focus more
time on the technical infrastructure of the SCA's servers and on
strategic
information technology policies and initiatives.

The role of Webmaster is entirely separate from the Society Web
Minister, an
officer who serves as a deputy to the Society Chronicler. The Society
Web
Minister is involved in policies for administration of web sites at
the kingdom
and local level, whereas the Webmaster is in charge of the corporate
web site
in particular and reports to the Chief Technical Officer, who is in
turn a
deputy to the Society Seneschal, Mr. George Reed.

In the modern world, Marla Lecin has 14 years of experience as a
software
engineer and ten years as a freelance web developer, her current
occupation.
In the SCA, Mistress Jessa d'Avondale, OP, is a resident of the East
Kingdom. She has served as a Chronicler at levels up to Kingdom, as a
staff
member for the "Tournaments Illuminated" publication at the Society
level,
and in numerous other offices. She has been a member of the
SCA "Webfolks"
team almost since its inception, seeing the www.sca.org web pages
through
several major redesigns as well as countless incremental changes. Many
SCA
members may also recognize her contributions as webmaster of the
Pennsic War
web site, www.pennsicwar.org.
