Will this new stuff help new fighters get geared up and keep them safe? It is
still being reviewed, so you may not want to just rush out and get it, but it
does bear a looking at... Andreas has been testing this stuff, and not only is
he a fighter, but also our current Kingdom Chirurgeon, so looking at it
seriously for protection and preventing damage to the fighter...
The first link takes you to the discussions reviewing the armor. Embedded in
that is the link to the company making the stuff, and a helpful hint:
"Go to:http://www.zoombang.com/
Email them and ask for the SCA Maximum Coverage shirt. Order at least one size
larger than you think you need.
They also have Awesome kneepads for SCA and Shorts."

Subject: [SCA-Chirurgeon] New form of Shirt Armor
Chirurgeons,
There is a new form of armor that is gaining popularity especially with the
Armored fighters called the SCA Maximum Coverage Shirt made by Zoombang.

This is being disseminated within the Marshallate.
From Sir Omarad, SEM:
OK.
I tested the SCA minimum armor standard against the Zoombang Maximum Coverage
shirt for Kidney protection.
My real-life testing against shots thrown across my kidneys with various weapons
found that the Zoombang shirt was equivalent or superior to the SCA minimum
standard.
I asked the engineers at Zoombang to test their material against the exact same
stuff I real-life tested.
I shipped my leather/neoprene to them and this is their results.
Now, you have to remember that I sent them a "best case" sca min kidney
protection.
The leather was 11/64" or 11oz. thick and the foam was a high quality neoprene
closed cell foam that was .100" (40%)thicker than the min allows.
They have also agreedto test the absolute minimum for me by using the min of
.250" padding and sending me the results.
Below is the results for the drop tests we preformed on the leather and foam you
sent and one of our pads.
The foam was .350" thick and the leather was .170" thick for a total of .520"
Our pad was .250" thick.
The test were preformed on an Instron Dynatup Drop Tower series 9200
The drop weight was 12 lbs and the velocity was 11ft/sec.
The leather/foam bottomed out at a peak load of 4298
The Zoombang pad had a peak load of 3555.
The conclusion that can be drawn from the test is that the Zoombang pad is 50%
thinner and absorbs at least 20% more energy.
My conclusion:
Zoombang Viscoelastic non Newtonian Fluid "padding" as provided in the Maximum
Coverage shirt meets and exceeds the equivalency of SCA required minimum Kidney
protection.
