I went to college in Potsdam, NY. If the SCA was active back then, I didn't know about it. I played a lot of D&D because that's what you could do up there for fun and not get frostbitten. <BR>

Potsdam is in the far reaches of upstate New York. The town itself is charming but it's darn cold up there and not very populated. I see that the event is held in Maxcy Hall, which I believe is on the campus of Clarkson University. Potsdam is a 2-college town in a 4-college area. Ten miles away is SUNY Canton (2-year Ag&Tech school) and 10 miles in the other direction is St. Lawrence University, where all the rich kids went.<BR>

I can imagine that it's a great breeding ground for college-type SCA membership. I doubt the locals understand the appeal. (I also grew up in Upstate NY, so I know the local mindset as well.)<BR>

I'd be surprised if anything held in Potsdam would be large, attendance-wise. Lord knows it's beautiful up there and cheap, with lots of space for battles, but it's a long way to drive for a single-day event.<BR>
