Haikei, Ii-dono.

The seasons change once more in their changeless cycle. The tolling of the
temple-bells reach this manor-house more clearly through the wintering
trees, and only the pines lend color to the courtyard. The few browning
leaves which wait to fall only sharpen the sense of autumn's passing.

Soon enough it shall be full winter, and the bright company of friends and
comrades will be most welcome. It is hoped that it shall then be possible
to accept Ii-dono's gracious hospitality, and that a friend, one who is
possessed of some interest in the noteworthy practice of armed combat in
the style of Enryakuji, may also attend.

The changing of the seasons is also notable as a time for the changing of
one's wardrobe As it is was not specified in the invitation, it is
wondered whether semi-formal, informal, or mundane clothing will be the
general rule of the evening - in the event that attire proper to nobles and
samurai of the capital is expected, it is hoped that a new ensemble will
be finished in a timely manner, that this house may be represented without
shame at Ii-dono's gathering.

It is hoped that the predictions of noted astrologers of the House of Ii
shall prove correct in their interpretation of the heavenly bodies, and
that all present enjoy the bright comfort of the evening's gathering.

Penned this Thirtieth day of the Eleventh month, in the year of the Fire
Dog,

Yamamori no Korehide.

>Written quickly with my own brush. Greetings to all inhabitants of
the capital, on the 21st day of the Twelfth month, the Onmyo-hakase of
the Onmyoryo have determined that yin will peak for the year, and yang
shall again begin to wax. Observing the alignment of the various
planetary objects, and reading the signs collected throughout the
nation, it has been determined that this would be an auspicious day
for a festive gathering.

Therefore, all good and right nobles within the capital are invited to
our humble dwelling for what pleasure may be had. Sincerely,

The 29th day of the 11th month of the year of the Fire Dog
Katsumori
