[Moo] Please Help me make an informed choice for a class at Pennsic

I am in search of opinions. I am teaching classes on period beading and
jewelry at Pennsic this year but have run into a problem. there is a great
number of fashions that only have chains as the jewelry adornment.

I have a mission that perhaps I can get some help with here as well. First,
let me say, I Know The SCA Policy On Wearing Large (Knightly) Chains and
variations in various kingdoms (so please don't re-explain them to me
instead help me make an informed decision.) One of the most popular period
style jewelry are large chains made different ways, typically unadorned.
However, that is reserved for the KSCA and I respect that. It is hard to
teach jewelry without touching on chains. I have asked friends from around
the known world how to approach this and have received many answers.

The most popular ones are:
1) teach it correctly but make sure that everyone understands the SCA rules.

2) Don't teach chains at all.
3) If the chain has a pendent on it or some other adornment it is ok to wear
it.
4) If a person is wearing multiple chains like many of the German people in
the 1520s - 1540s it is ok because it is not a single chain.
5) Beware that the chain is not too plain for the KSCA and not too fancy
that it would become confused with a great chain of state.

I will have prints of these different styles on Saturday at Stierbach
birthday (providing my health is ok) to show to people and get opinions.
Please help me make an informed decision so I don't confuse someone and get
them into trouble. I fear that if a person is a beginning or would be
jeweler they will find these paintings and then may simply do something. I
feel it is far better to head that off if at all possible.

Thanks for your comments,
Annejke

Feel free to cross post but please have people direct their comments back to
me so I can see them.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to
God.
