HRH ain't kidding about the heavier bags...  *g*  I tried this once with the so-called "double zipper" ziploc bags, toughly 7 inches by 7--and they melted in the boiling water.  The gallon ones, IIRC, are slightly thicker.

If you boil the water in the microwave... don't then continue microwaving with the bag in the water.  :-)  Badness ensues.  Don't ask...  *g*
