Greetings Good Gentles!

The much-anticipated Baronial Day on January 9, 2010 is almost upon us!  It will be an excellent day for all!

Here is a reminder of what you might want to bring to make your day better:
--garb to wear
--your non-marking shoes for walking anywhere on the fencing floor
--a potluck dish to share (you can store it in a cooler/ice chest if you are planning on staying the day)
--your feast gear
--your A&S project (please leave the ones with dangerous tools at home---ie glass cutters, torches, etc)
--a wrapped gift of no more than $25 in value, per person wishing to participate in the exchange.  Please keep in mind that the gift exchange is VOLUNTARY--I know that times have been hard for many.  If, however, you would like to participate, the more the merrier, and the better the stealing (ahem, I mean exchanging)!  See rules at end of email.
--yourself (really, if you do not bring this last one, the other items don't really matter--we want you to be there!)

Fighters should bring their gear (this includes heavy, rapier, historical,) and are asked to bring a gift with a value of about $10.  Please contact either Ragnar Ribcracker (ribcracker at hotmail.com) or Dante di Pietro (dante.di.pietro at gmail.com) for further questions.  No, you do not have to pay the usual $5 floor fee like you do on Tuesdays; the site rental fee covers this.

Viscount Cian is going to be leading a great sword class.  This is an unarmored class, so there will not be sparring, just drilling.  The class is for anyone, combatant or not.  If you have a great sword, feel free to bring it. (Everyone can then admire it for being a great sword!)

Takeda’s under-armor workshop class will also be available.  Don’t forget your t-shirt you can cut apart and your duct tape.

Lord Siegfried is kind enough to bring a few games for people, including Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, and Carolus Magnus.

Lady Blitha will have a kid’s craft available.

WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT EXCHANGE
How to Play the Game
1.  Everyone who wishes to participate brings in a $25 gift to the party.
2.  All gifts should be wrapped with no outside markings.  You shouldn't know who the gifts are from, what's under the wrapping, and the gifts shouldn't be intended for anyone specific.
3.  Everyone puts their gift in a pile.
4.  Everyone draws a number (1 to however many people are playing).
5.  Number 1 goes first, picks and unwraps a gift.
6.  Number 2 can pick another gift or "steal" an unwrapped gift. If an unwrapped gift is "stolen," the person it is stolen from can then "steal" or pick a wrapped gift.
7.  The next person's turn occurs after a wrapped gift is open.
8.  The game ends when all gifts are unwrapped.
RULES
1.  A gift cannot be "stolen" more than twice. So whoever steals it second gets the gift.
2.  A gift cannot be immediately stolen back by the person it was stolen from.
3.  All gifts must be kept in plain sight.

Tip: If there is a gift you want, wait to steal it. If you are the second person to steal it, you get to keep it.
XLII: The answer to life, the universe, and everything.
