The
Atlantia Academy of the Rapier and Costuming Symposium is fast approaching,
just 21 days away on September 7th in Front Royal, VA.

While my
esteemed colleague Wistric Oftun’s enthusiasm for Historical Martial Arts is
commendable, I believe that his guidance is somewhat misplaced.

Why
attend the Symposium? Attend the event for the COSTUMING!

The
classes offered span many cultures and eras: from Viking to Elizabethan, from
kumihimo to naalbinding. Come learn about underwear! Come learn about
outerwear! Like hats? We teach that.

The 52
hours of costume classes are too numerous to list in this announcement but you
can find them here: http://university.atlantia.sca.org/. Go check it out!

I want to announce one class in particular that we’ve arranged
especially to help you with preparation for the upcoming 12th Night
in January. Lady Faye de Trees will be teaching a
2-hour course in Ottoman clothing to help you learn about historically accurate
garments for the event. For those of you who cannot attend the Symposium, Lady Álfrún Ketta from the Shire of Sylvan Glen,
Kingdom of Æthelmearc has kindly put together a list of Ottoman garb resources
that may be of use to those folk who intend to make Ottoman garb. Her list of
links is here: http://awanderingelf.weebly.com/a-wandering-elfs-journey.html
and here: http://pinterest.com/alfrunketta/ottoman-and-middle-eastern-costume/.

So, come
one and all to learn what people wore, what materials they used, and how to
make garments and accessories that both enhance your appearance and add
splendor the events that you attend, thereby enriching the experience of all
who attend!

Yours in Service,

Lady Amie
Sparrow

Guildmistress,
St. Anne’s Guild of Clothiers
