My recent genealogical activities have somewhat incidentally given me
the following idea for an interactive skit at some type of upcoming
educational event.

Everybody knows that "Sir Thomas Malory" wrote the Morte d'Arthur (aka
the story of King Arthur) - but how many people know who "Sir Thomas
Malory" really was?

It turns out that there are three major contenders to the title of
"author of the Morte", each with arguments for and against: Sir Thomas
Malory of Newbold Revel (who was definitely both a knight and a prisoner
- and a real scoundrel), Thomas Mallory, Esq., of Papworth St. Agnes
(probably not a knight, maybe a person held in "protective custody",
father of ten children and a more or less respectable citizen), and
Thomas Mallory of Hutton Conyers (about whom very little is known for
certain).

The idea is to have three assistants each take the role of one of the
contenders and play it like "To Tell the Truth", with each of them
trying to convince the audience that he is the real author. (The
audience vote will determine who was the most convincing - there is no
one right answer.)

[Question: how many people still remember "To Tell The Truth"?]

Whoever takes Newbold Revel will be required to stick to the truth as
far as it is known - which is fairly fantastic in any case.

Papworth St. Agnes can exaggerate, elaborate, and equivocate within the
limits of what is known about him.

Hutton Conyers can make stuff up pretty much at will, as long as he
stays consistently in-period.

I don't know if the canton could pull this off unaided - might have to
take it to Baronial level, or put it up to Sylvan Glen (they're nearly
Barony-sized as it is).

What do you think?
