Thank you for all the kind offers. The sewing machine is a 29X4 singer, in outstanding condition) which will sew up to and beyond 1/2 inch leather. When I first got it we (Stupidly) played with the tension to get it to sew denim and now I can't get readjusted for leather. I am looking forward to this at-home and finally being able to work on some sewing projects.

Ahh, but I've already got a machine that sews leather. Mostly it's a matter of the needle. But there are some tricks to balancing tension. Some require special thread managing gadgets...

Taking treadle machine in to have a tech work on it is a bit of a pita. I'd do the at home fidgets for a long time before I hauled it in to the shop. Of course, lifting a sewing machine is not a problem for Baron Buff.

When I read you response, I laughed out loud and then had to explain my mirth to my husband: I had the same internal response that you typed out!

It's kind of like the costumer's version of King Arthur and the Sword and the Stone--

"who so ever fixith the tension, shall be rightful worker of the machine"

We are looking forward to the first at-home since Pennsic. Lots of stories and new friendships to discuss.

If there are any expert sewing machine manipulators out there I am issuing a special invitation to try your skill at getting the tension right on my treadle type singer leather sewing machine. I have the book for it but don't know enough to get the tension right.
