You mentioned tables, so maybe grouping stuff by century per table may be a
way your classmates can keep in minds eye the items of an age. So for example,
for a shoe (Jorvic style) on the 800s table, and a shoe (thin and pointy)
on the 1300s table, and a shoe (hard soled) on the 1500s table, it is easy for
the viewer to seperate the styles by ages. Sewing kits, needle cases,
buttons, fashions, calligraphy and bookbinding styles, cabinetry styles and
techniques,tools, and lots of stuff changed over the ages!
What so ever I have that you would like to display is yours to borrow. The
Button Project shows the changes in styles of buttons from 1300 on through
Elizabethan. I'm also working on a variety of needle cases and a timeline of
styles from Viking to 14th c to 15thc. Also have an assortment of embroidery
styles from viking, to 1300s (opus anglicanum) to elizabethan (blackwork).
Richard also has examples of embroidery styles (Germanic 1400s...). Hats may also
be fun to trace the fashions of....
