Subject: Beginning Tablet Weaving 10 Mar 2012

Tablet weaving is an ancient art for making narrow wares, from simple and functional, to complex and gorgeous. Mistress Molly will run a workshop to introduce the basics and get students started on a project. This is intended to be a foundational class, and more workshops will be scheduled to teach more advanced techniques.

WHAT TO BRING:

Students may bring their own looms, or may use looms provided in class to practice on. If you wish to take your work home with you, you will need to bring your own loom. There are a couple of web sites to help you with this (listed below), but basically you need to be able to provide tension on both ends of the warp. You can do this with 2 C clamps and a length of board or 2X4. Inkle looms will also work well. Also bring scissors, and note paper and pen for notes.

Fiber will be provided. However, if you are partial to specific colors, you will need four skeins/tubes of each color you plan to use in your project. Smooth cotton, crochet cotton and/or perl cotton are recommended for starting projects.

The class is limited to 8 active weavers, but more are welcome to listen in and watch.

Cards and weaving shuttles will be provided as a gift by the instructor to class registrants. There is no class fee for participants.

Please RSVP to cmerritt923 at aol.com if you plan to come. Include your phone number in case we have to cancel for bad weather.

Time: Saturday 10 March 2011 , 1 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Location: Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church , 3233 Annandale Road, Falls Church VA 22042.

NOTE: Site is a dry site and smoking is not allowed on the premises.
